Louisville Metro Police Department: Case Study

Decent Essays
The biggest challenge Louisville Metro Police Department faces is the increase of violent crime in the past year. Data has shown, the rate current rate of homicides Louisville has had this year it is on track to surpass the homicide rate of 80 in 2015. 2016 has been one of the deadliest years since 1971. Peace and Unity have been implemented into the department and the community but the violence still increases, so I believe at this time violent crime is the biggest issue Louisville Metro Police Department faces.

Attacks such as 9/11 have caused the world, but especially America, previously almost entirely unscathed by international conflict on its mainland, have caused us to rethink policing, and through legislation such as the PATRIOT Act, surveillance and profiling have become some of the main ways departments try and fight terrorism. The scathing report found that too many officers within the Department lacked regard to constitutional policing; that respect for the civil rights and dignity of the people of New Orleans has been absent (Department of Justice Civil Rights Division, 2011). Police Use of Force, what does it mean to you? This topic has always interested me, especially now with all the scrutiny towards the police. Due to the research and the interview I conducted with Sargent Terry Walters of the Logan Township PA Police Department, I have evidence that proves that the police are not as subjectively bias as the media portrays them to be.…
