Napoleon became the chief army commander He defeated the Austrians in 1796 who were one of France’ primary rivals. Napoleon also led the French to victory against the Egyptian military rulers. This helped him gain more power and fame, which made France rise again. At the age of 35, Napoleon crowned himself the emperor of France in 1804. He helped France expand. His family tragedies made Louis XVI an unsuccessful ruler. Louis XVI grew up strong and healthy, however he was very shy.. His father died due to tuberculosis . When Louis XVI was 15 he married Marie Antoinnette. Due to the tragic incidents in his family; his shyness and lack of confidence made him distant from Marie. As Louis XVI was very young and shy, he didn't know how or what to do after the death of his father. He struggled a lot during his childhood. On May 10, 1774, Louis XVI became the king of France at the age of 20. He was very immature and lacked self confidence, However he wanted to be a good ruler. His attempts to make France a better country had failed. During his reign he increased debt and almost drove the country to bankruptcy. He was also defeated by the Austrian army. There were many more events which led France to the downfall of France during the ruling of Louis XVI. He was also convicted of conspiracy with foreign powers and was guillotined on January 21, 1793.
