Waves of sound energy race out from a loud object in all directions and that energy keeps moving through the air until it reaches your ears. That is when you then hear the noise of said loud object. The pinnae (the large outer flaps of your ears), gather all sounds coming from the different directions, they are shaped in a way that allows this. They then go on to channel the energy through into the ear canal. At the end of this ear canal is the eardrum. When the energy, also known as sound waves, hit the eardrum, they make it vibrate. The hammer, anvil and stapes in your skull, notice those vibrations and move them on towards the cochlea, a snail-shaped structure houses fluid and tiny hairs called cilia. This is similar to a loudspeaker, it being simply an electronic sound amplifier. When you wear a behind the ear hearing aid, the microphone picks up sounds around you and turns them into an electric current. The amplifier then changes the size of the current to make it bigger. The loudspeaker then turns the boosted current back into a much louder sound. This louder sound continues to flow through the earmold into the person’s ear, making noises around the person much louder only in that person’s ear, similar to earbuds. In the case of a CIC hearing aid, there is a small plug that pushes right into the ear canal, so the sound doesn’t flow into the person’s ear, but rather directly to the person’s eardrum.
The two main types that hearing aids come in are analog, which simply convert sound into electric currents, boost these currents and turn them back into louder sounds, and digital, which convert the sound into numerically coded signals, and then refine those signals before converting them back into sounds. Digital hearing aids cost far more, are however also more sophisticated and in some cases work better and more efficiently. Digital hearing aids can also usually be tuned so that unwanted background noise can be blocked out more effectively than with analog hearing

One thought is, that scientists can concentrate the energy from speaking, not only the actual sound energy, but all energy, in a different way to help deaf or almost deaf people. Scientists however believe, that there is little hope of this happening very soon. Another thought is to present deaf toddlers with idealized synthetic speech, because this may be useful in auditory learning in the future.
Through the past, science has been applied in many different ways, to help solve medical problems. Science is not only used to make important discoveries of different medicines, but also to make discoveries used for different medical machinery, such as ultrasound machines , and of course hearing aids (both using sound waves).
