EXT. SIGVIDS WAR CAMP-DAY
Earl Sigvid and King Torvagg are standing atop a hill, overlooking the no-mans-land between them and the forces of Earl Tofi and Sven, Sigvids brother. Sigvid and Torvagg have created a makeshift campsite for themselves and their men. Some of the soldiers are SHARPENING their axes, some are PRAYING to their gods, others are resting by the campfire in preparation for the coming battle.

TORVAGG
I know this must be difficult for you, I will tell the men to try and capture your brother. We will leave his fate with you.

Sigvid stares off into the direction of his brothers’ campsite.

SIGVID
He is still my brother, I still believe that, in my heart he will not betray me. I will send

SVEN
Tell my brother I will meet him on the battlefield. I shall answer his request with blood.
Ake looks very frustrated and annoyed. As he turns around to leave their warriors start to BASH their weapons against their shields and march onwards. Ake rides back to Sigvid and Torvagg.
AKE
Sigvid! Your brother refused to back down, he and Tofi are marching here right now.
SIGVID
We shall meet them in the open plains.
Sigvid walks forward with a blank expression on his face, Ake follows him. Torvagg is left with gathering the rest of the troops.
EXT. FIELD-DAY
Both sides have met one another in an open field, they are standing across from each other. It is completely silent except for the WHOOSHING of wind.
SIGVID
(Yelling)
Shield-wall!
Sigvid and Torvaggs men form a shield wall, the front line raises their shields while the second row raises their shields above their head. Spearmen have the tips of their spears protruding out of the gaps of the shield wall, in a phalanx formation.
TOFI
(Yelling)
Shield-wall!
The silence continues as both sides are standing their ground in a shield-wall formation. Tofis men start to BANG their weapons against their shields.

SIGVID (Cont’d)
(Choking)
Very well…However, as your Earl I have the final decision. I shall give my brother another chance, for I know his heart is not yet corrupted.
GASPS of disbelief are heard throughout the crowd, as Sven is released.
SIGVID (Cont’d)
As for Tofi, do his crimes really need to be spoken?
Crowd SHOUTS “no”.
SIGVID (Cont’d)
And who believes this man is guilty of his crimes?
The crowd unanimously raises their arms.

SIGVID (Cont’d)
Then it is settled, Tofi how do you wish to die?
TOFI
Beheading.
SIGVID
(Smiles)
That is what I thought you would say.
Sigvid stands up, walks to Tofi and places his hand in his face.
SIGVID (Cont’d)
But that is not how you will die. I will draw-the blood eagle on your back.
Colour drains form Tofis face and his eyes widen.
TOFI
(Begging)
No.
SIGVID
Your back will open up, and wings will be made.
TOFI
No.

SIGVID
And if you make a noise, you will never be allowed to drink with the gods in Valhalla.

TOFI
(Looking into Sigvids eyes)
No.
SIGVID
(Looking back at Tofi)
