Long-Term Care

According to Nelda McCall: “long-term care (LTC) refers to a continuum of medical and the social services designed to support the needs of people living with health troubles that affect their ability to perform everyday activities such as bathing, dressing, and walking” (McCall, NA). There are other common long-term services along support that aid with everyday tasks that such as housework, and taking medication (Longtermcare.gov, 2015). LTC facilities provide diverse levels of care determined by a person’s needs during short or long period of time. LTC is but one part of a continuum of care that stretches from living at home completely independently in the 24-hour supervision and care provided in LTC facilities. There are regular health-related checkups, however they do require medical professionals all the time. Occasionally one might need supervision of health care under the direction of a licensed physician. In addition, the residents who live in residential care facilities are required to make a path to safety unassisted (Health.mo.gov, 2015). An assisted living facility provides individualized personal care. These do not necessarily include medical assistance, but helping with laundry and housekeeping. More activities one may need assistance with are such as eating, dressing, bathing and more. The facilities may provide health and medical care, however, they are not as intensive as the care offered at a nursing home.
