Throughout the book “Scarlet”, the author added quotes from the “Little Red Riding Hood” fairytales. After doing extended research trying to find out which tale these quotes had come. Sadly, only one quote was exactly how it was written in the fairytale, “She did not know that the wolf was a wicked sort of animal, and she was not afraid of him.”This quote is partially from the book Scarlet but is as well apart of the fairytale “Little Red Cap” written by none other than Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm. As for the other quotes the author used, they are either altered or not found. Fore the third quote was from “Little Red Riding Hood” by Charles Perrault, however, altered slightly, the majority was there. Also altered, was the fourth quote, however, …show more content…
Which original fairytale the book was based inspired by is unknown, however, wiki had said Brothers Grimm and Charles Perrault, which would make sense towards the quotes found. “Little Red Riding Hood” and “Little Red Cap” become a base for Scarlet’s life. Before each “Book”, as she calls them, she puts a quote from one of the fairytales. These quotes go in order of the events in the fairytale, however, they also have a deeper meaning. Each quote tells what events in the original fairytale take place in the book. An example, the first book’s quote was, “She did not know that the wolf was a wicked sort of animal, and she was not afraid of him.” In the chapters that follow the quote, Scarlet meets Wolf, a character undoubtedly based on the wolf from the original fairy tale. Scarlet lives on a farm with her Grandmother who she loves dearly. And when Scarlet’s grandmother goes missing and she bumps into Wolf. Skeptically Wolf is a strange character because it is hard throughout the book to tell where he stands on the spectrum of antagonist or protagonist.
