Hildreth (Laureate Education, 2014b) whole group lesson. She introduces a strategy called schema, which is your prior knowledge on a topic. This strategy, helps every reader connect with their past learning or schema to comprehend the text better. The presentation of a new strategy is everything, the way the students grasp the understanding of the lesson is what is going to help them along the way. Ms. Hildreth models the strategy by using a file folder and some visuals as the same way Mr. Recio provided visuals to his learners during the lesson. As Reutzel & Cooter (2016) explained that differentiating reading instruction is essential to help students have success in the learning environment. We had been learning two new high frequency words, which the title of the text uses. In addition, since the school started we have been exploring words through the classroom. I have been applying Mr. Recio’s oral language strategies of asking and using new vocabulary words to engage on oral discussion and promote conversations (Laureate Education, 2014a). I also, written words I hear often and add them to our word wall for them to keep reference them. The lesson was effective, the goal was to reflect more on why we need to learn how to read and for them to notice how much they can read and identify words. The text chosen, the character explains the different places she likes to read and the types of text she could read. This text also influence on making connections on the places they read and the different words they could also read. This group of learners knows their letter sounds and are starting to build words on the sounds they hear and by segmenting the words. These learners are able to demonstrate their learning through illustrations and are adding words to it, they are labeling their work at this
