The factors that will be used in the correlational design are the students’ grade point average and the number of times the students apply lip balm a day. The goal of this correlation is to see if there is some merit behind the idea that using lip balm is potentially harmful to the education of youths. The closer to +1.0 or -1.0, the correlation is, the stronger the relationship will be. However, if the correlation is closer to 0, the weaker the relationship. If the correlation is 0, there is no relationship. The researchers predict that there will be a strong negative correlation in this study. This would mean that as the number of times a student applies lip balm a day, the lower that person’s grade point average will be, and vice versa; the lower the number of times a student applies lip balm, the higher their grade point average.
