The summer flounder tends to reproduce in depths reaching from about 60 to 160 feet. The center of reproduction happens typically in New England waters rather than off the coasts of New York and New Jersey because the water is less concentrated with activity. After being laid, the eggs float around in a “water column” and typically, the eggs hatch after 72-75…

This species was introduced into the UK in the 1970s as food source. It spread quickly up and downstream and human introduction, although illegal, is still continuing. It may travel over land to colonise near freshwater. Its negative impact is mainly due to the loss of the native crayfish species, the white-clawed crayfish (Austropotamobius pallipes) through spread of disease and direct competition. Furthermore, the Signal crayfish is also impacting the river banks as it uses to burrow into them, creating instability of the vegetation and the ground.…

Unlike other species in the same genus B. capriscus do not feed prior to and after fertilization (Simmons & Szedlmayer, 2012). They can be seen foraging within a meter of their nest but rarely actually feed (Fig 4.) and their persistence in staying near the nest is unparalleled by their close relatives (Simmons & Szedlmayer, 2012). Their territory is in three dimensions and extends out from the nesting area 2-3m and above in a tapering fashion thus fish several meters above can be deeper within their territory than those laterally positioned (Millington & Randall, 1990). During the spawning season males and females are…
Lionfish were originally spotted of Florida’s Atlantic coast near Diana Beach back in 1985. The invasion of Lionfish started with only a few fish and it is unknown how they got there, but it was likely to have followed up currents on the Atlantic Coast, to the Bahamas, and into the Gulf. Lionfish are reef fish that are predators, they eat the native fish and reduce their populations having a negative effect on the reef’s habitat. Such as they can eat fish that are algae eaters causing the reef to have way too much algae, or they eat some of the smaller native fish that larger native fish should be eating. When Lionfish reproduce they lay two masses of eggs each with 12,000 to 15,000 eggs each.…
