In No Impact Man, Colin Beavan discusses many important topics, one of which is about trash. This topic got my interest because we see it everywhere, Colin goes into detail and discusses a lot of facts about it. An interesting observation was made regarding the black color of trash bags, that the reason trash bags are black instead of transparent is because people do not or cannot deal with seeing what is inside of them. Another related topic that always gets my concerns is recycling our waste. There are a lot of people that don’t recycle and just don’t care.…

Let somebody else do it”. This statement is preposterous, as its basis is to be lazy. If we were to follow this statement, nothing would ever be resolved. This would lead to world wide panic, as not doing our part to ensure the world continues, will end it. Broken down, this means that every trash piece left on the ground will potentially lead to an animal's death, continuing down a very extensive food chain, all the way to humans.…

Susan Revermann (2017) states that federal governments spend millions of dollars on litter, costs for these efforts could greatly be decreased and used more towards environmental projects , if more people disposed of their garbage properly. Yes, not all of the trash belongs to one person and that it why we all need to take part clean up. Respecting our community’s health is an option that can only be taken with everyone's cooperation. While writing about the necessity of respect, Dreisbach also describes that “The key to a sustainable future is living in a conscious and respectful way, stewarding the energy and resources we use, and wisely planning for current and prospective needs” (Dreisbach). The harming choices we make are not well thought out so if we become a little more conscious, things will begin to change.…

In the article, Recycling: The Big Picture by Tom Zeller, Jr. on National Geographic Staff, some are wondering if recycling is a benefit, because transporting the materials creates more carbon dioxide in the air. The answer is yes, recycling does benefit us, and cities are getting better at reducing the costs of recycling. Everything we buy took a lot of resources to make, but recycling, or replacing new materials with ones that have already been used, saves resources, reduces waste that we put out, and reduces pollution and the demand for energy. Not everything gets recycled, though.…

The reduction of landfill waste can reach to 75% of the 175 million tons of trash generated in the United States, according to a report created by Tellus Institute, an institute dedicated to recycling. About 60% of trash generated by Americans goes to landfills in the United States (Kulpinski) due to the ineffective recycling laws in the United States. Around 9,800 different local recycling plans operate in the United States, according to E.B., the Economist writer. Landfill wastes are known to be environmental hazardous due to Carbon Dioxide and Methane gas production: they contain 50% of Carbon Dioxide and 40-45% of Methane gas (EPA website). Landfill wastes also elevate the levels of Ammonia and Hydrogen Sulfide, which can cause breathing difficulties for people who live near the landfills.…

It’s time to change, time to think of ways we as individual could help reduce our waste when we shop, work and play. There’s tons of ways we could help contribute but here’s couple that I believe should start off with and then work our way up to Waste Free. Before I lay them out , let’s take a look inside our waste bin , try to find some sort of waste that couldn’t have not ended up there for example, use ceramic plates at home instead of disposable spoons and paper plates.…
