The face of Jesus is symbolic in itself in this society, his face is unmistakable in countries all around the world. In this day and age, the “face of Jesus” is white (or tan), long brown hair, moustache and beard, with a white robe and sandals. Many painters, artists and authors have incorporated Jesus into their art which makes him such a popular symbol in our culture today. For example in Leonardo Da Vinci’s famous painting, “The Last Super”, which is recognized all across the world or in Michelangelo’s “Pieta.” In The Passion of the Christ, the Da Vinci Code, and the Life of Brian, each director and author is trying to transmit a message about Jesus to the audience that they think is important. In my opinion, Mel Gibson’s The Passion of …show more content…
This movie does not mock the life of Jesus but rather it pokes fun of a young man’s life (Brian), born on the same day as Jesus but in the stable next to him who just happens to be mistaken for the Messiah. In fact, Jesus in only shown twice; once in the manger as a baby and the second time from the very back of the crowd when they were gathered for the Sermon on the Mount. Palin and Python have argued that the film does not ridicule Jesus Christ, but in fact it indicts “close systems of thought.” The Life of Brian is not solely a religious satire, but more of a jab at English society and its politics transposed into the Biblical past. Eventually, Brian is mistaken as being Jesus and thus being the Messiah. He slowly catches the attention of a small crowd who follow him and his teachings. Ultimately, Brian is brought before Pilate and is then sentenced to crucifixion which happens to take place at a nonexclusive execution site a few blocks away from Calvary. Rather than the last six words Jesus says, Brian leads the whole crowd into song singing “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life.” The directors of this movie is trying to show that Jesus is human, that he could be an ordinary person. It contrasts what is said in the Bible simply because the Bible conveys that Jesus was “chosen,” only Jesus can do what he did. All the experiences that he went through were particularly unique to him and only

In its times, “Brian’s Song” was the most iconic made-for-TV movie. ABC strategically placed its premier, utilizing the concept of “flow” to cross-over their normal, stereotypical male Monday Night Football audience, towards the broad audience they were striving for their prime-time football games. Doing this allowed Monday Night Football to become a “consensual space”, thanks to the high viewing rates of the connecting film. These ideas worked with the themes of the movie to construct a positive vision towards the NFL. Raymond Williams’ concept of flow is demonstrated through the way ABC strategically premiered the movie “Brian’s Song”.…

She describes the painting as, “He was all rouged and pale and pouty as Elvis Presley.” (Allison, 42). Her description of the painting is a more immature analysis of him. The artist of the painting must have intentionally made Jesus look younger and more kid-friendly because of its location. This was the painting that was hanging over the baptismal font where mostly young children are to be baptised.…

Although Monty Python's Life of Brian was intended to be seen as a satire of the government and people of Great Britain in the 1970's, it also provides an excellent glimpse into the life of people in the Roman empire at the turn of the century in terms of the costume and setting, small day to day details, overall attitudes of non-Roman citizens toward the Roman soldiers, and the contribution of the Roman empire on society as a whole.. The movie is set in Roman occupied Judea, and begins at the birth of Jesus of Nazareth, where Brian Cohen, a half Jewish half Roman man, is mistaken for Jesus after being born in the stable right next to him. The critically acclaimed show Freaks and Geeks is a shining example of a TV show that ended far too early. Freaks and Geeks was a show that captured the awkwardness of adolescence, as opposed to the romanticized and nostalgic view typically portrayed on TV. Shortly after Freaks and Geeks ended, a spiritual successor arose in the form of the show Undeclared, created by Judd Apatow, a producer of Freaks and Geeks. Where Freaks and Geeks was more drama than comedy, Undeclared was a lighthearted show that explored the college experience. Although Undeclared presents plots typical to the college experience, due to the lighthearted tone of the show, aspects of typical college life are presented too simplistically.…

The Incarnation and Icons There has been great debate over the centuries about whether it is appropriate, or not, to use an icon of Jesus in worship or religious practices. Those that are against the use of an icon believe that this practice violates the second of the Ten Commandments because it can be seen as idolatry. On the other hand, those that are for the use of an icon believe that it is justified by the doctrine of incarnation; Jesus used a physical body to accomplish a spiritual work the same can be said for the use of icons. The painting, Prince of Peace, was created by an 8 year old named Akiane Kramarik, and depicts Jesus Christ.…

In the painting, Christ is illuminated by being colored in with very pale colors, but he surrounded by a myriad of colors. Each person depicted in the painting, especially those in the foreground, are each wearing clothes that have different hues, such as the Virgin is wearing blue while the Saint John is wearing red. The colors of each of their clothing are quite intense adding to the energy of the scene. There is also a mix of warm and cool tones throughout the painting, which adds the disorder of the painting. Another important aspect of the painting is the use of color in the middle ground and background.…

The violence depicted in the film is very hard to describe. It is sickening and shocking to watch, especially when it is the portrayal of the crucification and suffering of Jesus Christ. It shows almost two hours of non-stop brutality, with almost relentless torture and bloodshed. The only person who would watch this film and not have an emotional response is someone who is living without any feelings. When it was screened in theatres, there was tears in the faces and in the eyes of everyone watching, and although they knew the story, they were shocked and scared of what was yet to come because of the violence.…

Unfortunately, Brian Wilson’s had a really bad relationship with his father (Murray Wilson) because he was an extremely violent person who always yell and beat Brian when he was young back in the 60’s, and his left ear even got deaf because of his father. The movie Monty Python’s Life of Brian is a comedy in which Jewish protagonist Brian, who was born on the same day as Jesus of Nazareth (Jesus Christ), gets confused for the Messiah when trying to hide from the Romans. The Romans try to hunt down Brian (and eventually succeed) because he is a member of The People’s Front of Judea, a group that aims to revolt against the Romans. Although the film is clearly fictional, it plays on many factual aspects of Christianity and, in particular, the life of Jesus. In developing a setting that resembles the time in which Jesus was born, the film highlights the incarnate nature of Jesus: an important aspect that makes the plot possible because it makes a man getting confused for Jesus (somewhat) plausible.…

Since the Renaissance period, many things have changed, from the way we act and the way we dress, but one thing that has not changed is our appreciation for art. Art, then and now, captures the worries and problems that are going on in the World around us. Michelangelo’s “The Last Judgement” (1536-1541), has many scenes within the painting that show the people’s facial expressions, mostly of worry, for whether or not they will be sent to Heaven or Hell. Michelangelo (1475-1564) just may as well be one of the greatest Italian artists of the Renaissance period, creating some of the most creative and inspiring artwork during his lifetime. Looking at all of his paintings and sculptures, one can definitely tell that his artwork is very detailed…
