The way he is now of feeling depressed is due to his childhood. Max still remembers situations that have happened to him as a kid. He has been bullied from being beaten up and being attacked. People constantly laugh at him when he wasn’t aware of it. He over thinks why people laugh at him since he has trouble understanding people. His depression makes him to have trouble expressing how he feels, “I have trouble expressing my emotions” (Elliot). This is one of the reasons why he’s been depressed because he’s keeping his emotions in instead of letting it all out. Max childhood has never faded away in his memory, he gets sad which makes him have anxiety attacks. His childhood gives him thoughts thinking it can happen all over again. It affects him from being depressed because he freaks out thinking his life would be the same from the past. He was looking at Mary’s letters smiling with happiness. He smiled in peace, he had many anxiety attacks due to his disorder. He got cured so it helped stopped, but getting them back again from Mary questions made him worse all over again. Mary was a very important person in his life. Even though it affected Mary, she was thoughtful to enjoy her life she had with him. She cried with happiness, “ You are my best friend. You are my only best friend” (Elliot). Max was glad to have a friend like her, they both went through the same difficult times. The impact they had is what continued Mary to become stronger.
