Lice Observation

Decent Essays
This observation helped me to see what to do when a situation such as lice occurs in a classroom. This assignment helped me to think about how I would want inform parents of my students when this occurs. I found this experience very useful because I got to see how calm the teachers stayed that child was pulled from the room but It didn’t cause a disturbance, then a few moments passed and one of the teachers called the children to the carpet for circle time while the other teacher bagged up the pillows in the quite area and all of the close in the dress up dramatic play area. When the parents came to pick up their children the teacher just said hey can I talk to you a second and she informed them lice was found but the room has been cleaned

Classroom Setting One of the first things I noticed when walking into Mrs. Curl’s classroom was how pleasant a place it was. Not only was it clean, neat, organized, and colorful, but it also possessed a fun, child-friendly element that made it look like a place any kid would enjoy spending long periods of time in. Mrs. Curl would play music softly in the background at the beginning of her class when the children were doing educational busy-word to keep them occupied until everyone arrived and she was ready to begin the lessons. This improved the atmosphere tremendously as the music was, at times, soothing and at other times fun, kid-friendly tunes that got the kids excited and happy.…

Observations: Students were allowed to wear a hat to class if they had paid a dollar. Usually this is not allowed in class. They seemed pretty excited over allowed to wear a hat in the classroom. When the students finally settled in to the classroom, Mrs. Geisheimer gave the students a Do Now. The way she described the assignment was confusing because she told the students to do the right side of the page, but when showing the class the paper, she was pointing to the left side of the page.…

One thing that stuck out to me in chapter four was the section on “I-Messages”. Especially in Elementary classrooms, I think that it is easy for a teacher to point fingers at students when they are misbehaving. It is easy for a teacher to call out that student and tell them that they are doing something wrong. But when a teacher uses an “I-Message”, they are showing the student how their actions are effecting others without criticizing the student. When teachers use “I-Messages” students don’t feel attacked by the teacher and they are more likely to be open to changing their behavior because they see how they are effecting others.…

I am jerked from my daze back into the daily humdrums of activity surrounding me – my teacher has a look of discontent plastered on her face. Rocket ships swirl in dizzying loops around her head, an odd purple creature peaks from behind. She asks if I am paying attention, I take a moment before I nod. In my mind, she has relented – in reality, I will be sent home with a hastily written request for a parent-teacher conference. We all know the drill by now.…

Stocker and Mrs. Morales also did an excellent job engaging the students in classroom discussions. One day Ms. Stocker began to teach a lesson on kindness. She first asked the children what they think kindness is and how they could be kind to others. One student even decided to share a story about a time that someone made her upset, because they were mean to her and how she wishes that they were kind instead. Ms. Stocker then began to read a book to the children and throughout the entire time, she stopped and asked them questions, such as “What would you do?”…

I arrived at The Public Health Department on Monday at eight o’clock in the morning, on the fifth of February. On the verge of completing day two of my Service Learning Project, I felt myself becoming anxious about what I would be allocated to do, together with eagerness on assisting in educating the young children of the Oologah/Talala School District about hand washing. I really enjoyed the time I spent in Mrs. Flinn’s fourth grade classroom over Spring Break. I was able to observe for a total of four hours between Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning. During my time with the fourth graders, I took a closer look at the solid behavior classroom supports being used. Along with these supports, I was extremely impressed by the way Mrs. Flinn handled classroom management. Even though I observed during a very exciting week, she had great control over her students.…
