Our city, Jersey City, is known as the most diverse city in America. It has a lot of history of monuments, people, and even schools. Yet there is a place that stands out. The place is called Liberty State Park. It is not only recognized as where you have fun or picnics, but because of its history.

Liberty State Park began as the waterfront home for the Lenape. Then, it became the waterfront for the Dutch settlers. They later developed a ferry service to Manhattan in 1661. The northern part of the park follows the line Morris Canal. The Morris Canal’s barges transported Pennsylvania coal to the Urban markets in the nineteenth century. The eastern part of the park used to have railroads. Located at the north end of the park, there used to be the Central Railroad of New Jersey (CRRNJ). It operated the terminal complex from 1849 to 1967. The little use of train transportation left the Central Railroad bankrupt. It then was strewn of debris. Some residents thought the place could be turned into a public attraction. They got support from the state and federal government, and they turned the huge and devastating wreck into a waterfront park.

Its beginnings came around the time of the Revolutionary War and East Liberty was a free, grazing area in Allegheny County a few miles away from a burgeoning new town called Pittsburgh. In about 1843, commercialism began industrializing the area, thus changing the formerly farmland to a village. In the 1960's shopping malls were added to aid in localizing business.…

Sitting there was President Abraham Lincoln, white faced covered in marble, facing the Washington Monument, another great historical location, about 1.5 miles apart from each other. Also surrounded by a lot of historical memorials like: The Korean War Veterans Memorial, and The Vietnam Veteran Memorial. Standing tall the Lincoln Memorial is surrounded by large pillars, covered in white marble and dirt by the hands of time.
