Level 1 assessments allow surveyors to achieve a general evaluation of core components in the course room. These include content, objectives, multimedia use, and instructor interaction. By placing the evaluation into a structured assessment, it can provide a quick, effective means to discover errors or issues within the course. Yet participants may feel hesitant to offer opinions regarding a topic. Kirkpatrick (2012) expands on this with the idea that participants may fear potential backlash for their contribution. These surveys are taken anonymously, with the survey takers identity confidentiality kept as a top priority. By assuring safety of opinion, it is hoped that participants provide a much clearer, effective summation of the courses strengths and weaknesses.
Application Plan (level 1) Students will be provided with this evaluation after the end of their course. It is a 16 question short scaled survey designed around basic aspects of the course. Short answers are often considered idea for testing factual knowledge when a word or phrase is important to know (Student Assessment Chapter 12: Testing and Assessment Issues, 2011). They allow for teachers to quickly check for understanding of basic ideas and how well the student has received the concepts involved with said ideas. Essays provide a much more detailed examination that provides a chance to students to show detailed knowledge and comprehension of a topic through their own writing styles (Student Assessment Chapter 12: Testing and Assessment Issues, 2011). Through essays instructors are able to sample their student’s growth regarding the topic. Both provide very quick prep time to conceive, though detailed grading will take longer than most other types of level 2
