But Hughes believes that fulfilling these dreams is not an impossible task. He believes that every person has desire to control his or her own destiny and the pursuit of freedom is not just an American dream, it is a dream that every person has. Through hard work and high aspiration people can live the life they want and live that life on their own terms.
Although Langston Hughes wrote this poem in the mid 1930’s his work still applies to life today. There is still hate, racism and separation in America today.
