Lennie In John Steinbeck's Of Mice And Men

Lennie is a murderer but he doesn't meen to be that way . In the book “Of Mice And Men” by John Steinbeck there are 2 characters Lennie and George they are pretty much hobos during the great depression jumping from one job to another. The thing is they can't keep a job because Lennie keeps messing everything up for both of them. My claim is that Lennie is isolated from everyone in the book and that's what leads up to the important events of the book.

An example of Lennie being isolated is when George yelled “ if I was alone I could live so easy. I could go get a job an' work, an' no trouble.”(89). this shows that when on the farm he would get along with the other workers so much easier with no trouble. George is also trying to isolate himself away from Lennie by being with his own group at points in the book. Crooks makes a good point when he says “I said s'pose George went into town tonight and you never heard of him no more” but what if george never came back how would lennie react would he isolate

When ever George is mean to lennie, Lennie will say “If you don't' want me I can go off in the hills an' find a cave. I can go away any time”. and then George will say “No—look! I was jus' foolin', Lennie. 'Because I want you to stay with me."(103-104). Because George doesn't want Lennie to go off and kill himself he lets him stay with him but in the end George ends up killing Lennie even though he ends up killing lennie after he kills Curley's wife.

The last example of Lennie's isolation is when George is playing solitare by himself after lennie and him fight. George “Almost automatically George shuffled the cards and laid out his solitaire hand.” this shows that they may not have a true connection with each other. Also before George starts to ignore Lennie, Lennie says “I don't want no fights”. This shows that Lennie dosent want to be discluded from George even mentally if he's away from

Some of George’s conflicts are internal, while others are external. Although George faces many struggles he always seems to be able to think of a solution. Because of Lennie’s disability, George could not always treat him as a friend, but sometimes more as a child.
