Internet Use
Training should be considered for employees by the businesses they work for so that employees are aware of the company policies. Employees are given handbooks and policies are presented during orientation and then it is left up to the employee to read their policy handbook. Technology has grown and it continues to do so, and employers are implementing policies for internet usage as well as internet usage. PMSI, Inc. May 2011 in Florida is an example what and what cannot happen with employees that abuse their internet privileges in the workplace. Lee sued her employer for discrimination in pregnancy and in turn PMSI, Inc. filed a counterclaim alleging that Lee had violated the computer fraud and abuse act (CFAA) by accessing websites like Facebook and had sent emails through her personal email accounts. Because this could not be proving the Judge presiding over the case concluded that Lee had not done anything wrong, that she was not in violation of the CFAA. The computer fraud and abuse act is a statute that is designed to go after hackers and criminals that have the capability to access computers for criminal reasons.
