We were walking our usual route when we came up on a goat that was missing its two hind legs. I do not know how this came about and who would do such a thing or maybe it was a sign that the enemy was trying to give us. There were children all around some looked upset that the goat was just laying there dying consequently we moved it behind a building away from the kids. My buddy started playing with the kids to distract them while my squad leader asked yours truly to put the goat out of its misery. Everyone expects the DOC, a term they used for the combat medic, to take care of things like this, especially since I carried a pistol along with my rifle. The Platoon Sergeant had different views on what should happen so he told me to standby. He gave a direct order not to put the goat down, that he would recommend punishment if I did so. I pulled him aside and tried to reason by applying the (1b) perspective and advised him that we would have to dispose of the goat to put it out of its misery. This task was extremely difficult and was not just for the goat, additionally, there were children who lived right down the street that didn’t need to witness the animal dying. While ultimately he didn’t convert to the rest of our beliefs we tried to exercise the theoretical conscientious objection
