Learning To Read Analysis

To be honest I don't remember learning to read. It just seems like I've always known how to. I don't remember the struggle and determination little kids have trying to pronounce words that I can say with just a snap of my finger. It seems like reading is something I've always known how to do. If it's something I've known for awhile why don't I engage in this activity more? My mom always told me that when teaching me to read I caught on rather quickly. This makes a lot of sense because it explains my personality. I tend to catch onto things quickly, except calculus. To my parents this might have been the first sign to them that I'd be a quick learner. As I got older I loved reading the American Girl books and the Magic Tree House books. I had all the books in the series’ of both. At this age I had a lot of time on my hands because when you're little you don't have a lot of obligations. That excess amount of time soon faded. I did many sports when I was little and to this day. My parents put me on a competitive cheerleading team, soccer, softball, and I was on a competitive gymnastics team. Between practices, games, and meets I'd try to read but that time was also taken over by homework. As a gymnast you miss a lot of school to travel across the country for meets. After I am well settled and doing my dream job of being a Primatologist and rehabilitating baby orangutans, I want to be able to sit out on my porch and read. Like in the movies with the old couples sitting on their rocking chairs and reading a book. I know it sounds a bit odd but it looks so peaceful. Plus with my dream job, I plan on going to Borneo so that I can interact with the orangutans and on my down time I can easily find a peaceful place in the forest where I'll be working and doing research to read. It'll be fun plus reading might become more enjoyable with a strange goal and plan like

Over the course of the last few centuries, Christianity has been a driving force in the development of western culture. From igniting Crusades in the Middle Ages to introducing new words to the English vocabulary, the Christian religion has had a considerable influence on every aspect of the western culture known today; arguably, the arts and literature specifically were the most heavily impelled by Christianity. As Thomas C. Foster states in his book How to Read Like a Professor, writers of all forms of media are at least aware of the stories of the Bible, and use them in their works, whether it be a story structure or the names of people in biblical anecdotes. Because of this, it is interesting to notice that most classic novels (and even present works) use the idea of Jesus, or the Holy Spirit, in their narratives to create new yet familiar characters. Nathaniel Hawthorne…

Having been homeschooled for the first twelve years of my life, I had a rather untraditional childhood. While my friends were required to go to school from 6:20 in the morning to 3:30 in the afternoon, I was at home studying or on a field trip to some relevant lecture, the library, or a museum. Because of this less rigid environment, I usually had a lot of time available to me in addition to my school time. Using this excess time for my own personal interests, I developed a penchant for reading at an early age.…

I always read as a kid. I was the small boy who plowed through books day and night, my mom scrambling to and from the library just to keep up with me. The only thing fixated on my mind was reading a new book and being totally captivated by the plot. Since then, I read less and less, sometimes going months without finishing a book. I feel sad that I spend less and less days staying up to midnight just to read one ... more … page.…

Also, my attention span when reading books can easily get interrupted. The first time I was interested in books was when I first started reading The Harry Potter Series. This was sometime in elementary school. The books were quite advanced for my age; however, my grandmother was my source of help. She became my educator throughout elementary whenever I needed help with literature work outside of school.…

Learning to read is a skill many can obtain quickly or not so well. Myself, on the other hand was one of the many children who struggled with not only the thought of reading, but the actual process of reading not only a book, but sentences, word and sounding out words. Struggling through elementary with reading problems and on and off again help made it seem even worse. Going into kindergarten was intimidating, with all the bright colored posters with words even I couldn’t read. Having to be assigned seats next to strangers who soon would become my closest friends.…

Literacy has always been an important part of my life, but in my early years, reading and writing was a tremendous challenge for me. When I reflect back on my childhood, I’m reminded of a variety of things, moments like going camping or riding a bicycle. But most importantly, being the oldest one and having to set an example for my sisters. It’s what I had to do since I was the oldest. If I didn’t advise my sisters on the right path since the beginning, then they wouldn't be as far up the trail of education as they are today.…

Reading was my favorite hobby because my family did notinvest in nice gadgets, as my mom would say, such as a Gameboy or Nintendo 64 or even a nice computer. The games I did play were some religious games meant to teach children about the Gospels or the classic Mario games. Both lacked the rich stories of the books that I cherished. Going back to when I was first introduced to The Hobbit, I spent my free time listening to that book. Not playing with friends, not playing outside in the mud, not playing catch with my dad.…

Just staying in this place makes me feel cozy like I’m wrapped in a big fluffy blanket and the chair is like sitting on a big white cloud even though I don’t know how they actually feel. But the best moment of staying in this room is with my mother. My mother gotten me to open up my eyes to see that there is more to books than just words, that it is our imagination that brings the books to life. “When you picture the place of the setting or the characters in the book, it’s going to be different when others picture it.” is what my mother said to change my way of reading books and guided me to read different books.…

When I was young I was never the best at reading even though my parents owned many books and magazines that they read on a daily basis. My mother enjoyed reading her gossip magazines that she would receive in the mail once a month and my father had a whole bookshelf full of history books. My parents would always encourage me to read the books I would check out at the school library to improve my reading and writing but that advice usually went in through one ear and out the other. The only books I would really attempt to read had to be humorous or horrifying, my favorites were the Goosebumps collection. I loved reading these books alone in my room where I couldn’t be sidetracked by all the commotion that went on in my house.…
