Learning Outcome 2

Throughout this semester, we have written two major papers that really display my capabilities as a writer. By evaluating these two pieces with the learning outcomes established at the beginning of this semester, outcomes 1, 2, and 3 are most applicable when gauging my progress in this course. Learning outcome 1 is, "Demonstrate academic research and writing skills in essays and projects to participate in a scholarly conversation" Learning outcome 2 is, "Demonstrate critical reading through a knowledge of the forms and functions of a variety of texts" Learning Outcome 3 is, "Follow a research writing process that includes developing a topic, locating and evaluating sources (including peer-reviewed), composing in response to those sources, and revising and reflecting on that process;" Each of these outcomes I believe I have met by using them as goals when writing in and out of class. In my essay "Survivors and their Children: Examining the Holocaust's Multigenerational Effects" I discuss the impact the Holocaust has on those who survived it and on their children. I use many sources to find my research. In reading these sources, I obtained a greater understanding of this topic, and display that in my essay. I utilize many forms of information, whether the be interviews, testimonies, biographies, memoirs, or studies and articles. Much of the importance I found was in first-hand accounts of the events that happened during and after the Holocaust. Using very credible sources such as Elie Wiesel, a Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, I educate myself on a very complex topic. I used studies on the psychology of victims to help advance my research and to create a more credible and analytical paper to back my
