4.1 Lean Six Sigma
Definition:
Lean Six Sigma (LSS) is a methodology that improve performance by systematically removing waste and reducing variation. It is a combination between Six Sigma method and the waste reduction philosophy of LEAN engineering.
Mentioning about Six Sigma, it has eight kinds of waste that no company wants during their process - it doesn’t add any value to the customers:
+ Defects: The product isn’t in accordance with customer wishes, inaccurate, late, incomplete Staff is rude and/ or sloppy.
+ Over-production: Wrong document Settings, blank paper, double printing, unused system features, redundant systems, unnecessary options and/or clauses.

After that, they have pre-view members and multiple configuration control board for review meetings. Combined between configuration control and stakeholder perception of process, Intel sees that strong business case could be made for the implementation of LSS in the way to reduce waste and improve efficiency.

Define:
R&D engineers have the roles to give feedback and provide requirements for the LSS methodology by gathering improvements of the process. The goal is 50 percent reduction in idle time and reduction in process :

The team will match input from customers and generated cause-affect matrix Pareto chart. In this case, the time required are provided doesn’t have any affect on the purpose of case study. Intel looks at the selected cut-off score and consider the failure modes and effects of analysis (FMEA). FMEA is a common industry tool for checking what can be failed in business process. It also analyse what is the reason of failures and calculate possible corrective actions. Security, Occurrence and Detectability numbers are chosen from experience. The team also realized that LSS helped them in changing old bad habits so they can improve their process. Make business process simpler so R&D team can focus on technical aspects rather than business
