If managers lack good communication skills, they can fail to gain commitment from employees, and therefore, not be able to achieve business goals and fail to develop a rapport with the people on their team. When members of an organization can work together effectively, chances are it stems from their leader being able to communicate effectively.
Barriers to Effective Communication
Barriers to communication can be explained as specific items that can prevent communication within an organization. Barriers make a communication complex, difficult and frustrating (Klimova & Semradova, 2012). The following are the examples of barriers to effective communication in the organization.
Perceptual Barriers: this result when two or more people have a different opinion. Communication can be influenced when people have preconceived ideas, typical behavior patterns or misunderstood body language.
Emotional Barriers: this results from fear and mistrust that people have towards others, and it prevents them communicating effectively. In such a case, the emotions take over when communicating with others, and feelings such as anger, pride, and anxiety cloud people’s judgment and distort great communication (Klimova & Semradova,
