Lawnmow-Personal Narrative

Today is Tuesday the worst day of the week. The day the Smith’s son mows the lawn. The day me, my family, and friends have to stay perfectly still but, we still shake so much in fear of the lawnmower running us over, everything from our boots to our hats shake. If you haven't guessed it yet I am a gnome. Summer to specific. I have a blue dress with a sunflower in the middle. That has a little chip conner from an incident with the neighbors dog. My mother's name is rose because of the rose pot permanently attached next to her and my father's name is George. We are all from china. At least the is what's engraved on the bottom of my dress.
There are about 30 gnomes in the Smith's backyard including my family. We're usually happy and like to play games in the backyard while the smiths are gone but, not today. Today the death machine comes out or as the Smiths call it a lawnmower. Just last week it nearly took of lily by the lilies arm. For months we have been trying to find a way to protect ourselves but we just end up yelling at each other. “Grrrrr” “Grrrrr” , the lawnmower roars to life you can the grumble of the lawnmower as is slow gets closer. We all in rush find our spots and hope for the best.

All the gnomes start to gather at the far rose bush. So the Smiths couldn't see us. It would probably give Mrs.Smith a heart attack seeing all her gnomes gathered in a circle. We gather here every day to discuss the lawnmower situation as the older gnomes like to call it. I just like to call it how to stop the spinning blades of death from chomping on you for lunch with a side of grass. Every was talking at once. Just like every Tuesday, nobody lets each other talk. Then all the sudden a giant poster comes ,about inground pools for sale, knocking all of us down. The wind then picks up again and slams it against the window.Mr. Smith heads for the door just as we hear kevin

She weighs considerably more than the average 14-pound cat, has manicured paws, and from the tip of her nose to the end of her tail she has orange striped fur with a tint of brown on her left front leg. She irritates me quite often around breakfast time by nudging my leg with her head. This is how I know that she wants to be fed.…

Sometimes I dream that I am again standing at the pathway of the Burkley house. The chimney billowed with smoke, and the magnolia bushes in full bloom; like they once did in that spring time air which curled around your every movement. I dream of again clomping my over-sized shoes against the ever twisting stone path, catching rain drops and petals in my unkempt hair. I will not lie; I do long for the Burkley house, for the essence of my youth still stays trapped in those lengthy hallways. I often forget the blizzards that struck, the lighting that cast us in darkness, the people I met.…

After going thru the house and not finding anything, we headed toward the barn, but the scarecrow caught my eye and I decided to check him out. None of us thought to question the pumpkin head, but around its arm was a key hanging from a string. I took it over to the barn to see if it worked on the lock, and surprisingly it worked. As we opened up the barn door,we heard a noise in back of us, as we turned we saw the pitchfork stuck in the ground behind us and the scarecrow was gone.…

Grass Ceiling “Are you kidding me?” I groaned boisterously as the last remaining trimming string snapped and the weed whacker gradually churned to a stop. I had been so consumed by my thoughts of planning my senior speech, crafting my life plan of becoming a nurse anesthetist, and figuring out what I wanted to eat for breakfast, I failed to notice my quickening pace and that I had outworked the machine. It was a humid Sunday; the grass was still wet with morning dew when I had abruptly woken up and tied on my decrepit, battered, green-stained sneakers. As I began the trek to my neighbor’s house the sweet strong smell of wet grass lingered in the air.…

In the ninth and tenth lines, the author writes, “they do some wonderful things / they have some wonderful fun,” suggesting that Brooks only wants to go to the “backyard” in order to have more fun in her life. The repetition of “wonderful” is used to emphasize her opinion that the backyard is much better than the front yard. In the eleventh line, Brooks’ says, “My mother sneers, but I say it’s fine,” representing her rebellious attitude towards the front yard and her mother. In the twelfth line, the back yard is described as being the ideal place for Brooks because “they don’t have to go in at quarter to nine,” emphasizing the idea that people only want what they cannot have. Brooks only knows the ways of the front yard, so everything about life in the back yard looks appealing to her.…
