Infants that are born from 34 0/7 through 36 6/7 weeks of gestational age (GA) are termed late preterm infants (LPI). Infants in this category account for a majority of the babies that are born. There are significant health risks associated with late preterm infants, with the most common being respiratory complications. Antenatal corticosteroids (ACS), including Betamethasone, are useful for promoting lung maturation in preterm infants, and have also been shown to reduce the incidence of other neonatal morbidities.
