Laramie County’s obesity rate is 28% of the population and Wyoming’s obesity rate of 25%; it is clear, Laramie County’s statistics show room for improvement (2015). The recent obesity epidemic of being excessively overweight is not only a personal responsibility, it is also a community responsibility; communities should provide safe places for residents of the area to exercise, enjoy the outdoors, and not resort to stationary activities (Schneider and Schneider, 2017). Many children and adults spend less time preparing food and more time eating processed food or fast food (Ng, Popkin, and Smith, 2013). If families and individuals learned how to prepare food, then they are more likely to use the skill. My mother taught me how to prepare my lunches before the week started. This has helped me eat healthy and save money by not eating fast food during college. Creating nutrition and cooking classes would also align with Health People 2020’s goals because they are targeting teaching the community healthy behaviors and habits, along with improving the behaviors in all groups of the
