'Musée des Beaux Arts' and 'Landscape with the Fall of Icarus' are ekphrasis; the poems are about the Icarus painting. In 'Musée des Beaux Arts', Arden uses two paintings to express what he wants people to know about life and how the most significant or famous events takes place are insignificant during then. In 'Landscape with the Fall of Icarus', the structure is very simple and has little punctuation; this leaves the reader to interpret the poem their own way. In 'Musée des Beaux Arts', Auden praises the painter, Brueghel, about how the paintings show suffering and around some of the most known events. In the first stanza, Auden states what is happening in the painting, Census at Bethlehem. The second stanza is on the Icarus painting:
