The Mongols used skills such as their mobility of horseback, their skills with the bow and arrow, and their huge army that was strategically structured, and Chinese technology to give them a better chance in land battles where as the Europeans used their naval technology to gain an advantage over the sea, and saw the bigger picture of controlling the sea could mean to them. The Mongols wanted to be feared so they used that to their advantage and had no problem killing anyone to get what they wanted whereas the Europeans were more interested in establishing themselves. Europeans wanted to spread their religion and culture unlike the Mongols who just settled and learned from existing religions and cultural. Even though they had a different way of building onto their empires they still both wanted to have some sort of control of something and they both forcefully took control of what they wanted. With the combination of qualities from each civilization I believe the Europeans where Mongols of the sea.
The connection between the Mongols and the Europeans may not be directly connected but they do possess elements that mimic one another. The main goal of these civilizations is to seize control of everything and anything so that their empire can prosper longer than any other empire and leave behind a legacy.
