Today, lacrosse has been one of the most fast growing sports in history. Countries all over the world have established many lacrosse programs for all ages. Canada played a huge impact of the spread of lacrosse to the other countries. European countries as England, Scotland, and Ireland along with Australia and the United States were some of the countries that instituted their own lacrosse programs after hearing about Canada’s programs. England actually formed their program after Queen Victoria watched a match and said, “The game is pretty to watch” (Claydon). Another reason that it has been a great sport is that it has been an Olympic sport for two years. In 1904 and 1908, the United States was one out of three teams that competed in lacrosse of the Olympics. However, Canada has won the gold medal for both of the two years. Lacrosse was also known, as a demonstration sport in 1928, 1932, and 1938 of the Olympics, which was not as official as the other sports but was still a big competitive sport towards the countries in the world. However now, it is not an Olympic sport due to many countries not having enough teams and not enough success in experience unlike Canada and the United States. Those countries have a huge reputation of the game and known as a major sport. The IOC or International Olympic Committee requires countries to be recognized enough for success of a spectacular sport in order for it to be an Olympic sport. Now, Countries are hoping to increase their reputation of lacrosse so that they will be able to play the in the future Olympics.
