To parents, it may seem that there is a healthy, open relationship between their child and themselves, but in reality, the child is only telling their parents what they want to hear. This was very much true in the Lee household. To James and Marilyn, it seemed to them that Lydia was a happy child with lots of friends and a deep passion for learning.
