Laboratory Developed Test

Improved Essays
Decisions to reimburse medical devices in Canada are highly de-centralized. In Canada, most of the tests used for PM are Laboratory Developed tests (LTDs). This is because Cdx tests are replaced by LTDs and are subject to provincial regulation and oversight. The vast majority of decisions concerning reimbursement rates are made by hospitals, who normally receive global funding for providing services. When a CDx is mandatory to performed and extra funding is needed, pharmaceutical companies pays for the costs (http://www.thejournalofprecisionmedicine.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/DUBOIS.pdf). This payment mechanism is followed also by many European countries as it will be described.

United States of America and Canada are both highly developed countries bordering each other, yet they have two completely different healthcare systems in place for their citizens. Public health expenditures are carried out by national and local government and public sector enterprises while private expenditures are carried out by individuals and businesses that are not government owned. The ongoing debate over which system works better has been in public interest for years. Every country’s vision is to have a universal health care system. A system that is not necessarily “free” but a system where everyone has equal opportunity to get the best health care being offered without partiality. Canada successfully implemented the universal health care for its citizens, but it is not perfect in any sense. Individual citizens are provided with preventive care and medical treatment from primary care physicians as well as access to hospitals, dental surgery and additional medical services (Canadian Health Care, 2014-2017, p.1). Some services under the healthcare system that are not covered or partially are things like prescription medication, physiotherapy, ambulance services, prescription eyeglasses as well as dental care.…
