If there is a movie that you must see, I would recommend viewing La Misma Luna (English translation: Under the Same Moon) directed by Patricia Riggen and written by Ligiah Villalobos. La Misma Luna was a surrounded with suspense featuring action and life threatening events for a teen that was separated from his moms an early age. The movie was filmed in Mexico and Los Angeles, and it was released in 2008 with showing in both Mexico and the United States. I am a single parent, and I selected La Misma Luna because I am attracted to or interested in mother-type oriented films telling stories of or relating to female-headed households. The movie had three primary actors: La Misma Luna starred by Adrain Alonso who played the little boy as Carlitos, Kate del Castillo acting his moms as Rosario, and the role of Carlitos’ friend as Enrique helped him with his journey through California to Los Angles to join his mother again. …show more content…

The main theme in this book is the unbreakable bond between a mother and her child. Although Enrique barely has memories of his mom and has only talked to her on the phone a handful of times in the past ten years of his life he still feels the need to be with her. The passage that I pulled from the book as the most important and meaningful is a short dialogue between Enrique and his mom. At this point in the book Enrique has just crossed the border into America and the smugglers that got him there called his mom and said that they need more money.…

It is universally known that to truly understand someone, you have to walk a mile in their shoes. Investigative journalist Sonia Nazario does exactly that in her Pulitzer Prize winning book, Enrique 's Journey. She immerses herself into the life of Enrique, a desperate Honduran boy in search of his mother, by imitating his journey through the harsh South American terrain on "El Tren de la Muerte [The Train of Death]", in hopes of understanding what brings "48,000 South American children to the United States alone and illegally each year" (299). Nazario evokes feelings of humanity and compassion in her audience by establishing her credibility as an unobtrusive observer, appealing to the reader 's emotions, and citing concrete facts and evidence.…

I think the intended audience of the of the movie was young girls who are coming of age. The movie did showcase a hispanic family and some of their traditions and beliefs but all young women who watch it can take away a sense of empowerment.
