In our culture, Hmong, there are certain morals that differentiate depending on your last name and what group you are. For example, my parents always reminds me and my siblings to marry only to our people and not to other culture out there. Although many peoples from different ethnicities are “okay” with the idea to marry other people into their family, my family’s way of marriage is that it is seen not appropriate to marry other into our family. These certain traditions, morals, and values make up the puzzle pieces in what means as Hmong. Ever since a young age I have been fascinated with the Native American art work that I have seen both in person and online. After traveling out west in Arizona and California and seeing some of the historic artwork that the Native Americans produced years ago, really gave me a sense on the traditions and time that went into each and every piece. One of the more particular pieces of work I am going to focus on is Native American Indian Beadwork. Since the beginning of time Native American Indians decorated their garments with colorful beaded designs that would represent a particular aspect of their culture or belief. They would use materials such as bone, shell, or dried berries to craft these beads into necklaces or decorations for the fringes…

A metaphor to thoroughly interpret my own cultural identity would be the coconut delicacy known as Haupia. Not only for its elegant perplexion, but for the soft clouded stature that belongs to this alien creature, which taste is only permitted to the fortunate few occupying the native islands of Hawaii. Another perplex root in the tree of my culture is Lei-making. The breathtaking row of an aligned set of flowers to form the Lei is one of the prime connections to the base of the hawaiian culture by contributing to the ancient craft itself. A more well-known phenomenon that had one of its origins among the islands of Hawaii and is still dwelled upon to this day is surfing.…

Adichie’s novel, Purple Hibiscus, supports the idea that having freedom and rebellion brings good change overall. This theme is demonstrated by the development of the protagonist, Kambili, with her increase in speaking and laughing that is caused by the sense of freedom she gains during her to trip to visit Aunty Ifeoma in Nsukka. Throughout the novel, the amount of speaking Kambili changes as she spends more time in Nsukka which demonstrates that the freedom she has there brings good change. Towards the beginning of the story, when she is spending her first day in Nsukka, Kambili notes that, “I did not say anything until lunch was over… mostly my cousins did the talking” (120).…
