South Korea or officially named as the Republic of Korea, is a country in the East Asian peninsula dividing the Yellow Sea and the Sea of Japan. Known locally as "Daehan Minguk" (대한민국), the country's capital is the city of Seoul, which is also its largest city. South Korea was divided from its counterpart state of North Korea after the Second World War. The division began when northern Korea became an occupational zone of the Soviets, and southern Korea, the Americans. He basically is dominant for the entire K-pop phenomenon of the first generation pop idols group in the 1990s. He manage a portfolio of artists and create his own K-pop training system that is now used by the others two major Korean entertainment agency but also including the small agency to follow as well. Yang Hyun-Seok establishes YG Entertainment in March 1996 and he is the former member of legendary boy band Seo Tai-ji & Boys. The music label was known for its hip-hop and electronic dance music such as PSY. Last but not least, Park Jin Young the head of the JYP Entertainment and the founder himself, also known as a solo pop star singer. There are some adequate information is unavailability to access, example one academic source I found from “IEEE Xplore Digital Library” website is really relevant to my paper the title named as “Korea pop takes off! Social media strategy of Korean entertainment industry”, written by JoongHo Ahn, Sehwan Oh and Hyunjung Kim. However, there is still available accessibility of information sources such as news and article in websites, even school library will provide sources as well like ProQuest.
SCOPE OF STUDY
Malaysia has huge population that is interested in Korean culture and K-pop since late 2000, this research will briefly look into how K-pop started gain interest in Malaysia through media industry. First, this study mainly focuses on K-pop music industry in the scope of media in Malaysia that influence consumers to buy their music. The research aims to present the factors and current influence of K-pop music industry particular in the spectrum of media industry that includes broadcasting, Internet, and publishing. This thesis will look into the impact of media in the popularity of K-pop music sales in Malaysia.
