Vulnerable, carnivore
They are the heaviest lizard on earth, and their large size is attributed to island gigantism. The population of Komodo dragons is currently stable, however vulnerable. There are about 3,000-5,000 Komodo dragons on the islands of Komodo, Gila Motang, Rinca, and Flores, located in Indonesia.
While they do roam freely, they are easily found in tropical savanna forests, and go to tight burrows at night.
When hunting smaller food, such as insects or mice, it will often simply bite at its prey, sometimes lunging right for the neck. However, when hunting larger game, such as water buffalo or other dragons, it will stalk its quarry, waiting for the right time to strike with its venomous fangs.
