Komboglyze is prescribed to a patient who has been on the maximum tolerated Metformin dose and whose blood glucose levels have not been regulated effectively or to someone who is taking Metformin and Saxagliptin as separate drugs. It can be combined with a sulfonylurea such as Gliclazide or insulin to achieve the targeted results of blood glucose levels.
How does Komboglyze work?
The drug is available as an extended release tablet and can only be purchased with a doctor’s prescription. The drug is a combination of two active ingredients namely:
• Metformin – it minimizes the absorption of glucose from the stomach, also, it decreases the release of the amount of stored sugar from the liver, and finally, it aids the body to make use of glucose better.
• Saxagliptin – it blocks the breakdown

However, the initial dose for people who haven’t been taking Saxagliptin is Metformin dosage one is currently on plus 2.5 mg of Saxagliptin taken two times a day. If a patient has been taking the two medications as separate tablets, the doctor may prescribe Saxagliptin-Metformin equal to the separate dose one is taking currently. Nonetheless, the maximum daily dosage is Saxagliptin 5 mg and Metformin 2000 mg. If the combination is taken with insulin or a sulphonylurea, insulin dose or that of sulphonylurea may be lowered to reduce the risk of low blood glucose (hypoglycemia).Take the medicine as directed, for a missed dose, take it as soon as you remember and continue with the regular schedule. But if it’s a few hours to the next dose, do away with the missed dose and proceed with the normal dosing schedule. It’s advisable to take the combination twice daily together with food to minimize the stomach side effects triggered by
