Knee Jerk Reflexes

Improved Essays
Introduction:

A reflex is an action that your body does in response to without you having to think about it. There are many types of reflexes and everyone is born with it. For my assignment it will be based on different reflexes of the knee jerk reflex between boys and girls. This reflex is called a stretch reflex and it happens when you tap the tendon below the patella, or kneecap. I choose this assignment because I want to see the different time measurement of how fast a boy’s and girl’s reactions of the tendon can reflex, because reflexes affects our daily lives as part of a survival skill.
What I did in this assignment is I had each boy and girl sit down in a chair where their legs weren’t touching the ground, and with my materials (stopwatch

This investigation is to show which gender would perform a faster reaction reflex to unexpected moments. Such as, distracting the boy or girl by talking to them and then hitting their kneecap unexpectedly for their reaction. This data shows that boys show a faster reaction of reflexes than girls do in their reflexes. In my data it shows the girls having a faster reaction in milliseconds of their time with a slow start in numbers then it goes back to smaller numbers in the middle towards the end. The data of the boys shows slower speed in varied of areas also, but mostly between the beginning or middle, then up to a faster speed in their reflexes at the end. This shows the muscle memory starting to develope as I’ve kept hitting the knee. It starts to remember to react unexpected or even not …show more content…

Studies done by Stroop (1992) and Windes (1968) suggest that the Stroop effect occurs when performing a naming task which impacts reaction times. In the Stroop (1992) study found that color naming had a slower reaction time when the color words were printed in a different color, but even slower reaction time occurred when the color and word were completely separate from one another. The current experiment used Stroop task to determine the impacts of reaction times to test the hypothesis to see if there is a significant difference between the reaction times amongst the four levels of the Stroop task. Specifically seeing if the naming of color words printed in the same color had faster reaction times than naming the color of word printed in different…

The classroom environment as a whole can handle the children within the program, however I will provide a better picture of the entire room to have a clear picture for reflection. As a child walking into this classroom you feel a sense of warmth of both the environment and also from the teacher as she greats all her children individually.…
