In my mind, Kingsway was dirty since the area is located in downtown but it surprised me since it was a lot cleaner than what I usually see at Dundas. The building located on the streets are quite old and many stores still uses it to do business despite its age. As I walking along the area, I saw that businesses of old and new were coexisting alongside each other, some of the store was probably existed there for a long time and some looked brand new. One of these old buildings I remembered the most was the Kingsway theatre because I liked to watch movies. The theatre was quite old, there was rot and rust on the signs which seems like it has been there for a long time at first I thought the theatre has been closed down for a long time but surprisingly it was playing old movies alongside new movies. One of the newer building that I remembered was shopper’s drug mart, the bricks of the building seems cleaner and whiter than most buildings that I’ve seen on the street so it gave me an impression that it was newer than most buildings. “In order to stay competitive, cities in the neoliberal era have become sophisticated entrepreneurs, and city decision makers do whatever they believe is necessary to lure wealthy investors, residents, and tourists to town.” (Bryson, 2013) Overall, I would say that the area was quite good and it is one of the cleanest place that I’ve seen in …show more content…
One of them is the spooktacular pumpkinfest which is held this Halloween. Another event is the Taste of The Kingsway event which is held yearly and it is the biggest event in the area. The annual event allows its visitors to enjoy over two hundred food and entertainment. Not only does the area hold its own events but other businesses also likes hold events at the location. Events such as the Scotiabank Dog Show is held by other businesses that are not originally from the area. “Public spaces are part of the image of the city, hence their use to (re)present and sell the city. Thus, public (and sometimes private) authorities place great importance on creating, revitalizing, revamping and highlighting these spaces.” (Bélanger, 2012) These events are some of the ways that gentrification helped this area, since it allowed new authorities to use reuse older public spaces to bring together its residents and
