Kids Should Have One Activity During The School Year

Not Enough Time
I propose that kids should have one activity during the school year. “I have so much homework, but I only have 20 minutes to finish before bed!”. Kids these days have so much going on in their lives that they don't have quality time for hardly anything else. For example, my brother has religion every Tuesday and Thursday for two hours right after school, then he has hockey on the other day's. He is one busy fourth grader, in today’s age of kids, that is typical. Kids are playing multi-sports in a season, as well as, being active in their community and other organizations. I believe kids should have one activity during the school year. Two, three, maybe even four may be way too much for some kids.

One activity that I would want to add to physical education would be Dodge ball. I want to add it because I think it is a good game, and I think that many other students in our school enjoy it too. If we were able to vote, in physical education, I think that many students would choose to add Dodge ball. The thing about Dodge ball that I think people enjoy is the friendly competition and facing off against their friends to see who wins. I think almost everyone can agree they enjoy a short friendly game of dodgeball.…

One reason schools shouldn’t have competitive sports is that kids are young and can hurt themselves easily or sacrifice other opportunities. Many in the field of sports are young. 60% of boys and 47% of girls are competing on sports teams by the time they’re six years old. As the child grows, training intensifies and expands to the off-season, making practice essentially year-round.…

We’ve all played some kind of sport in Middle School. Sports are an awesome part of middle school, but I believe we should cut sport due to us not having as much money. I think we should cut sports because we came to school to learn, there is a low academic impact in grades, and there is health concerns. Most of the money is being used to fund sports. According to Nix After School Sports, "$1,300 per football player each season and $618 per math student.…

I think kids should have more recess time. “Recess for school kids is just as important as learning math or the alphabet”, according to the Emaxhealth program. Recess helps children improve their physical skills, improve their social skills, and leads to better classroom behavior. Year round schooling can be summarized into one simple word: unjust. If the national school schedule were to change, it will undoubtedly have lasting effects on people’s family and the community. Family vacations, child care, and routine living would be disrupted by year-round educational programs. Federal and local government agencies, individual communities, business, churches, recreational activities, public service-programs, and patterns of operations. No matter what, this will force a huge change to the American lifestyle.…

For example on my busiest day, Wednesday, I sometimes have to do writing assignments that are supposed to be at least four sentences long and I only write four sentences. This leaves more time for my other school work and my youth group. In a new national survey done by the U.S. Census Bureau it was discovered that fifty-seven% of students aged 6 to 17 have at least one extracurricular activity in which they participate. They only have enough time to do the minimum school work assigned so they can go to their activities. Their grades in other classes might go down if they do greater than the minimum amount of work required in one class because of their limited time.…

The principle deciding that all students must participate in one extracurricular activity or more is, in my opinion, a bad decision. -Hook- Forcing students to take an extra curricular activity will do far more negative than it will good, for example it will cost the school more money, and take away time from both the students and teachers. By forcing students to take an extracurricular activity you would be depriving them of much needed time at home. Time that could be used with the family, at a job, doing homework, and an assortment of very many other important events that would be thrown off by your decision.…

According to John O’Sullivan from changingthegameproject.com, many parents fear that their child would fall behind if they didn’t specialize. This fear can lead to a child being put into a sport that isn’t enjoyable, motivating, or doesn’t take their physical abilities into account (O’Sullivan, 1). This fact shows that specializing doesn’t just have physical effects on a child, it also has many mental effects on them. Another fact to support this point is that The Bronfenbrenner Center for Translational Research recommends that parents and coaches take a child’s motor skills and mental development into account when deciding whether a child should play a sport, and suggest that kids should play more than one sport at a young age (Hall, 1). This fact shows that if a child only plays one sport their motor skills won’t fully develop, due to the fact that they’re only using certain muscles.…

If you asked me two years ago if I thought homework posed as a benefit I would say absolutely not. After graduating elementary school almost four years ago and starting to get real homework, I would disagree. Although it's not my favorite hobby, it remains very valuable in my life and will continue as a part of my life for quite a while. I believe homework exceeds in benefits and can help you on tests, help you learn to manage time and assume more self discipline and can even influence others. The lesson plans are constructed in the following manner to assist students in active learning: assessing prior knowledge or reviewing information from the previously taught lesson, a brief time period to transition into the work session, the main learning activity that assists students in meeting the primary learning objectives, and a conclusion which reflects on the information that was previously taught. This progression from an introduction to a conclusion provides a clear, logical organization of class time. Whole Class Activities: Each lesson either builds up to or reflects on the central focus of the unit, for students to be able to adequately interpret the meaning of a poem.
