The kidneys function to filter both toxins and additional not needed water. Kidneys have tons of nephrons which are tiny filters. A nephron is made up of two parts which are the glomerulus and the tubule. The glomerulus filters large molecules and blood cells from liquids and toxins. Then the filtered liquids and toxins go to the tubules. The tubule filters out more toxins missed from the glomerulus. It also gathers minerals and releases them back into the bloodstream. During the filtering in the glomerulus and tubule, the kidneys make urine. The urine will carry the toxins out of the body. The kidneys also make the hormones, erythropoietin, renin, and vitamin D. These hormones help to make red blood cells, regulate blood pressure, and maintain bone health.
Bladder- …show more content…
The bladder is where the urine is stored. The bladder is made up of four layers which are the epithelium, lamina propria, muscularis propria (detrusor muscle) and the perivesical soft tissue. The first layer, epithelium is just the lining of the bladder. The lamina propria is made out of muscle and blood vessel, and connective tissue. Then the muscularis propria is made out of smooth muscle bundles. Lastly the perivesical soft tissue is made out of blood vessels, fat and fibrous tissue. These layer make the bladder able to expand when there isn't’ enough space for the urine. The bladder connects to the urethra and there is a muscular sphincter to stop the leaking of urine. The detrusor muscles contract to release the urine from the bladder and the sphincter relaxes to let the urine out to the urethra.
Penis-
Penis- The penis can be put into both the excretory and reproductive systems. For the excretory system the penis is how the urine leaves the body in males. The urethra goes through the corpus spongiosum in males. The urethra is longer in males than females.
