Introduction to Assignment 1 This report contains information about British Airways as a company. During the three tasks given on this first assignment, all the information founded is used to analyse British Airways in order to find the main key-factors which influence the demand. These factors have different sources, like the service provided from British Airways, the company’s brand recognition (reputation and image), political forces/social crisis and the economic growth. All these key-factors lead us to the third task of this report, where it is analysed how BA faces their competition, like low-cost companies, and where are stated the main reasons why this airline company has a short competitors’ list.

1. British Airways is a British airline which was resulted of a merge, made in 1974, between British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) and British European Airways (BEA). This company was owned by the british government

Besides its importance in United Kingdom, British Airways is also the second biggest air company in Europe. The service provided are short and long flights, where the main routes are to Asian and European destinations. This popular air company main hubs are in Gatwick and Heathrow, both located in London.

By being several times on the top list of airline companies, British Airways has an enormous impact on the tourism sector by transporting a large number of people from one destination to another. Apart from the carried passengers’ numbers, this airline is also known by having a service differentiation and for being a trustful company.
According to Mintel [1, page 5], this airline holds the best rates when it comes to usage – with 50% of the population who already used it in the past – and consumers’ favorite brand – holding a rate of 10%.
