causing gradual distortion of vision due to progressive myopia and irregular astigmatism and typically diagnosed in the patient's adolescent years [1]. Because surgical treatment of keratoconus is stage specific [2], there are many classifications that have been developed for tracking disease severity in keratoconus. keratoconus according to modified Amsler Krumuch has four grades. Keratoconus suspect there is eccentric steepening, Myopia, induced astigmatism, or both -5.00D, Mean central K readings 48.00 D, mild keratoconus there is myopia, induced astigmatism, or both from -5.00 to -6.00 D, Mean central K reading 51.00 D, Absence of scarring, minimum corneal thickness 400 micron, moderate keratoconus :Myopia, induced astigmatism, or both from- 6.00 to -10.00 D, Mean central K readings 53.00 D, Absence of scarring, minimum corneal thickness 300 to 400micron and in severe keratoconus, Refraction not measurable, mean central K readings 55.00 D, Central corneal scarring, Minimum corneal thickness 200 micron …show more content…
In a DALK graft, only the outermost epithelium and about 80 % of corneal stroma are replaced; the patient's rearmost endothelium layer and the Descemet's membrane are left, giving some additional structural integrity to the transplanted cornea [9]. Comparisons indicate that outcomes are similar to penetrating keratoplasty in terms of visual acuity and astigmatism, with about 80% of patients achieving a best-corrected visual acuity of 20/40 or greater in most series [10]. Technology assessment by the American Academy of Ophthalmology concluded that DALK is equivalent to penetrating keratoplasty in terms of refractive error, and is superior for preservation of endothelial cell density. They believe that wherever feasible, DALK should be performed as the standard of care surgery when keratoplasty is required in keratoconus

Keratins role in the skin is making the skin waterproof, protecting the skin from sun damage, and protecting the skin from diseases. The cycle of keratinization is that first the keratinocytes(a cell that produces keratin) are created and divide in the first layer of the epidermis(the top layer of the skin). The second step is in the stratum spinosum where the keratinocytes begin to flatten. The third step is when the cells are in the third level of the epidermis the keratin and keratinocytes are cut off from nutrients and begin to die. The last step in the process is when the keratinocytes and keratin are dead and shed off in the top layer of the epidermis. The skin completely renews entirely every 28 days.…

These are available in soft and rigid gas permeable materials although the soft contact lenses are much more popular. This is down to the fact that they’re immediately comfortable and don’t require a breaking in period of any sort. Although gas permeable lenses can correct the more common types of corneal astigmatism without a toric design, the toric gas permeable lenses are necessary for higher amounts of astigmatism or less common variations. Fitting toric soft lenses however can actually prove difficult, as they have to obtain the best possible fit and offer great vision and comfort. There are custom toric lenses however for astigmatisms of an exceptionally high amount or unusual types.…

It also ensures there are a reduction in the “unnecessary A and E and hospital admissions”, suggested by Royal College of nursing 2012.…

When a child is born, one of the first things they do is open their eyes, little do they know how sight will control their lives. Children's eyesight develops from focusing on toys, following parents and being attracted to lights and colours. Eye conditions also develop in the early stages of childhood. From a young age, I grew up with an eye condition known as strabismus, only now do I know how my sight has been affected. Being slightly myopic, I became more intrigued in optics after being advised to wear glasses and realised when tiredness took over; when the spectacles were neglected, the intermittent exotropia misalignment (previously esotropia) in my left eye becomes more apparent.…
