Karen Baez (age 13) was hanging out with her friends Yesenia (age 12) and Emily (age 13) they all went to an after school program that allowed their parents to pick them up later while still being under adult supervision. Wanting to apprehend why the tutoring center was not open Karen, Yesenia and Emily were confused, not understanding why they could not receive assistance with their homework that evening. Puzzled, the girls were, they thought that since they were present there should be no excuse as to why the tutoring center should be closed. Emily and Yesenia went back to the recreation building while Karen stayed back to say “we will be back tomorrow. I won’t surrender”. Later she also went back to the recreation building. Having a tendency to tell others what had just happened is what Karen was known for, even though nobody asked which was at times appreciated and others not so much. There was another instance when Emily was sad, on the grounds that, Karen received additional computer time. Observing this behavior Karen assumed that Emily knew she had received an inadequate grade in math and felt awful for her. Therefore, when Karen went up to Emily she proceeded to say “don’t worry, if I vamoose to the tutoring center tomorrow my grade will rise”. Confused more than ever Emily proceeded to tell Karen why she was sad.
