Case Workers are present and available in all dormitories and group homes to help youth adjust to detention, and to deal with individual problems. Case Managers ensure that these services are coordinated and are tailored to meet each youth's needs. Chapel Services have full-time chaplain whom provides voluntary spiritual counseling and religious direction to youth in detention. Residents can attend services on weekdays, weekends and holidays. Education Services is provided along with the NYC Department of Education (DOE) a youth and family member can be educated. Health, Mental Health and Dental Services Around-the-clock health and mental health services are provided to juvenile’s detention facilities. All youth receive an initial health screening

In order to work as a child protective specialist their job description is to respond directly to reports when it comes to a child has been abused or neglected. They used both social work, investigatory skills, and they partner with the community to ensure the safety of New York City children. To be considered for the job you are required to have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in a specified discipline. Degrees in social work, education, psychology, human services and criminal justice can be helpful in obtaining employment. Theres no required work experienced but it’s most preferred. They have established State central register (SCR) hotline in which a person can make a report of abuse and neglect twenty-four hours a day and seven days a week. All calls are kept confidential and the (SCR) would relay the calls to (ACS) to begin an investigation when appropriate. When making a report you will be ask for the following information such as the name, address of the child, and whom are familly members. You would also be ask for child's age, sex, language spoken, nature or extent of child's injuries, and the type of abuse or neglect. The person making the report can include evidence of prior history of maltreatment of the child or siblings and any addition information that may be helpful. There’s also a mandated reported that is required by law to report suspected cases of child abuse and neglect. The allegations must be called into the hotline because ACS can’t accept calls directly, and allegations can't be accepted by email. If the child is in immediate danger then the person must dial 911. There are things that should be done further to reduce crime by encouraging people to make such reports. Violence and crime can be reduced or prevented in a community by increasing awareness and having people work together.
