The Triassic period was the first period of the Mesozoic era and occurred between 251 and 200 million years ago. At this time the earth was very bare. The planet was recovering from an event that caused a great mass extinction of over 90% of the earth’s species. It did however have some advantages. Those species that did survive repopulated the planet and created new creatures such as rodent-sized mammals and even the very first dinosaurs. …show more content…
This period was estimated to have been between 200 to 145 million years ago. During this period the climate on Earth had drastically changed from really dry to humid and even subtropical. Pangea kept separating, and one half of it, Laurasia, broke up into North America and Eurasia. Godwanda started to break up during the mid-Jurassic. Due to this break-up, more new oceans flooded the spaces in between the new lands. This was a very big change in time for animals as well. More oceanic creatures were populating more and had all different forms of life. On land, dinosaurs were also starting to make their mark in a big way. Brachiosaurus, Diplodocus, and Allosaurus were some dinosaurs introduced in the Jurassic. The earliest known bird, Archaeopteryx, surfaced during this period and most likely evolved from a dinosaur
The Jurassic is known as “The Age of Dinosaurs” because dinosaurs really were the dominant life on earth at this time. Which is probably why in the movie “Jurassic Park” it is named after this period. Small mammals were also present during this time period as …show more content…
These plants were supplying plant-eating dinosaurs with lots of nutritious food. Some Mesozoic Era angiosperms included magnolias, laurel, barberry, early sycamores, and palms. Later on is when grass may have evolved. Cretaceous vegetation was increasing in density and species diversity as the quick-to-adapt flowering plants moved throughout the world.
Animals during the Cretaceous period had developed just as much as they had in the Jurassic, particularly Dinosaurs. New species of these dinosaurs had become more important. The most famous dinosaur of all, the Tyrannosaurus rex, finally came along during the end of the Mesozoic Era. It walked on two legs so it is a theropod. All theropods were carnivorous. Sea animals and life in the sea was very like how it was in the Jurassic period.
The world's life forms were very different during the Mesozoic than either before or after. During the Mesozoic, dinosaurs dominated the Earth, reptiles highly evolved, and flowering plants began to bloom and spread throughout the earth. After the Mesozoic, the Cenozoic or the "Age of Mammals"
