Julia Alvarez was born on March 27th, 1950 in New York; she is a Dominican-American poet, novelist, and essayist. She is the daughter of parents who were natives of the Dominican Republic, when she was just three months old, the Alvarez family returned to their homeland, where they lived on her mother's family compound.
While analyzing the early life of Julia Alvarez we can understand that she gives more importance to the cultures and values. According to Thomas (2014) Alvarez was called the versatile writer. We know that the life of every person is different and Julia used her opportunities for providing more information and images about the family life. From childhood she wanted to understand the meaning of the life around her so she spent most of her time writing short stories and poems. Once she moved back to the states she faced different problems living in America than in the Dominican Republic; she lost her connections and she lost some of her relationships her family and friends. According to the words of Peter (2015) “in order for writing the poems the writer has to create good relationships with the people.” In the case of Alvarez, she understood the problems faced by the people in the world around her and she used her skills to motivate the younger generations and other people she encountered.
