Judy Chicago
The truth has been lost within the timeline of women in a world run by men. Women are constantly being dismissed from the course of western history. And to that, embracer of women and their undertakings, Judy Chicago, herself an artist in the modern era, installed one of the most recognized feminist art of all time to educate the public on the accomplishments by women. But focusing on femininity and women’s history had created a blind spot in her work. When possessing a strong belief to promote support for the oppressed gender group, it is crucial to not present unfairness within the group, or prejudice begins to emerge within ignorance.

Schaefer from DePaul University, summarizes the point of Chicago’s modern installation in his second edition of “Sociology Matters”. Women are altering their place in civilization to create a more equal world when Schaefer says, “Feminist scholars have not only challenged stereotyping of women; they have argued for a gender balanced study of society in which women’s experiences and contributions are as visible as those of men (Schaefer 16).” In a male dominant world, Judy Chicago does an excellent job in representing the marginalized sex. Mary Wollstonecraft (1759-1797) paid close attention to primarily on the psychiatry of women in society of what still lingers onto this day. Critical as she was to commonality during the Enlightenment Era, Wollstonecraft had an irritated perspective on the male dominant superiority and how those rules influenced the blind obedience women had to follow (Garcia). Young women, she believed, were not inherently inferior to men; their counterparts were allowed better—if not exponentially enhanced—education. Chicago had found a gap between women and education as well, along with the education of women in history, even in modern times. The 70’s artist disagreed with the truth that there was little being done to represent the ‘opposing’ sex and their accomplishments by the means of education as stated prior (Throughtheflower 1).
The current way of feminist thinking has become more modern and complex, however, as more theories and practices have been added onto the development of making feminism a more emphasizing part of politics. With all the negative and positive aspects of Chicago’s modern work, feminists may not consider The Dinner Party to be completely on par with up to date feminism—but to give credit where it must be given—this 1970’s art has been considered an epitome of feminist art even
