In the reading From Undoing Gender by Judith Butler has some points about what is gender and how people define gender. Which gender is defined whether we have a vagina or a penis though she talks about what happened with a boy/girl name Brenda which her classmates made fun of and also threaten her because she acted too much like a boy for example when they caught her peeing standing up. Brenda is now named David and is more like a boy which Butler tells the story of David and everything he has gone through just because he is different. David does not define himself as who he is by what “he has between his legs” he is a human being no matter what he has down there and he gets to decide who he wants to be and how he will beloved regarding of his gender, Butler agrees with what David is trying to prove in there is other ways to be loved other than because you’re a guy or a girl most …show more content…
He also said that he should be loved by something else like his personality and not what he has in between his legs. Most people are define by what they have in their body as in vagina, breasts or penis and from the moment you are born till the day you die you will be judge by being a girl or a boy. From the moment you are born when the doctor says it’s a girl or it’s a boy society and your parents’ kind of start shaping you on what you should like for example girls should play with Barbie’s and boys with cars. What David means is we shouldn’t be judge on by your gender and that shouldn’t define your happiness and whether or not you should be loved. When the doctors where telling him he will be picked on and be alone because he was not going to have vaginal surgery David responded that he will be loved differently and by other reasons. Now people are more open to others and accept them by who they are as in their personality and what they do for others this is probably one of the points that David was trying to
