The Legislative Branch, also known as Congress, is made up of two houses, the House Of Representatives and the Senate. It’s primary role in the US Government is to make laws, which are discussed and voted on. The two houses have varying jurisdiction. (“The Judicial Branch." ) It’s general responsibility is to, review and interpret laws, and has the sole power to declare laws unconstitutional. Distinctive courts have distinctive jobs; appellate jurisdiction, the higher court, duties include, state law, treaties, treason, and power to review lower court decisions. However, the original jurisdiction, a lower court, involve duties such as, ambassadors, and disagreements between states. Members are known as Justices, and there are currently 9. Each Justice is nominated by the president, and is left to be chosen by the Senate. The term for a Justice is for life ‘under good behavior’. The only qualifications Justices need are to be educated and experienced in law/ and politics, and must have the same opinions as the president. For instance - the Judicial Branch declares a law unconstitutional this gives the Legislative Branch the ability to override the Judicial decision. Or maybe the Legislative Branch wants to pass a law, the Judicial Branch, which reviews it before, can declare it unconstitutional. This is called checks and balances, which has a crucial affect on the US. Considering that if we didn’t have checks and balances the US, and its government, would be chaotic.
