It’s “Jesslyn” not “Joslyn” With the pedal to the metal at the crack of dawn, my grandparents rushed to the hospital as fast as they could on the snowy morning of December 1, 1997. I was born shortly after they arrived and everybody present unanimously decided on what I was to be called… “Jesslyn Sue Nelson”. My mother told me that she named me Jesslyn simply because she liked the name. She said that when her sister was pregnant with my cousin she left a baby name book laying around and my mom found my name in the book and fell in love with it because of the uniqueness of it (Nelson). Perhaps it was too cold and too early in the day to argue with my mother, who had been dead set on naming her first girl “Jesslyn” since she was merely 17-years-old …show more content…
My last name, “Nelson” means: “Son of Neil” and is the 39th most popular name out of 88,799 other surnames in the United States (Campbell). We once had a dog named “Nelson” and all of us kids thought it was because our last name was “Nelson”, but it was really because my dad liked the football player, Jordy Nelson, who plays for the Green Bay Packers.
“Jesslyn” is so unique that there are hardly any celebrities with the name. Although, there is a brand of environmentally-friendly leather handbags and purses called “Jesslyn Blake”. You can find them around here at stores like Buckle so I guess that’s pretty cool.
The uniqueness of my name is pretty cool, also. I hope that it is one of those names like “Sue” that gets passed down through the generations. I can picture my kids and grandkids fighting over how to spell “Jessie” for the sake of their children and grandchildren. When I was younger, I despised my name. However, now that I’m older, I have grown to love it. It’s a good conversation starter. I can’t imagine being named anything other than “Jesslyn” (Not
